General Cigar Announces Price Increases
General Cigar is the latest company to announce price increases to the majority of their cigars, citing rising costs of tobacco, manufacturing and logistics as the impetus for the increase.
The effective date of the increase was Monday, January 16th, so all orders placed going forward will be subject to the increase.
While there isn’t a uniform price increase at this point, some retailers say they have seen markups of around 5% on certain cigars.
Update: General Cigar says the increase is less than 3% on select products. They describe it as a “very slight price increase.”
One brand in General’s portfolio who was spared the price increase was CAO. The price of all CAO large cigars remains unchanged, while the price of CAO Cameroon and CAO Maduro has been reduced.
The news comes on the heels of Thursday’s announcement that Oliva will be implementing an across-the-board price increase on their cigars effective February 1st.
