April 11, 2012 (New York, NY) — Tobacconist to the World since 1930, Nat Sherman is pleased to announce that every member of the retail sales team at its flagship Townhouse store in Midtown is now a Certified Retail Tobacconist by Tobacconist University. The Nat Sherman Townhouse is the first store in the United States to have an entire sales team certified by the leading tobacco authority for consumers and professionals alike.

“We want to provide the finest experience to every customer that walks through the doors of the Nat Sherman Townhouse,” said Michael Herklots, Executive Director of Retail and Brand Development at Nat Sherman. “As a company we are dedicated to elevating the retail experience both within our own store as well as leading by example for our fellow premium tobacconists around the country. We couldn’t be more proud of our team for their hard work in making this happen.”

Accreditation by Tobacconist University requires months of intense studying and a deep passion for tobacco. All nine members of Nat Sherman’s retail sales staff completed a minimum of 500 hours as a working retail tobacconist to be eligible to take the Certified Retail Tobacconist exam. The one hour test consists of 100 questions on all aspects of the tobacco industry including cigar tobacco growing regions, seeds and plants, rolling, aging, packaging and more.

Tobacconist University is currently the only accreditation organization within the tobacco industry to provide educational resources for consumers and professional tobacconists. The university aims at building and projecting the credibility of the luxury tobacco industry in order to improve the customer experience.
