Over the weekend, Andre Farkas of Viaje made appearances at a pair of events for the launch of the 2012 edition of his Zombie cigar, one at Anthony’s Cigar Emporium in Tucson, Ariz, the other at The Westside Humidor in Wichita, Kas.

During the Tucson event, Farkas shared some news about what’s coming out next month, as well as a few new projects he’s working on. Among the highlights, the next edition of the Viaje TNT, C-4 and Summerfest are scheduled to hit retailers’ shelves in June, while a new project for the 4th of July will also be out in the coming weeks. Farkas wouldn’t go into any detail about this new cigar, but did say it is something new for the holiday.

In addition, Farkas was seen giving out a pair of pre-release samples to customers. The first was the Viaje Skull & Bones Potato Masher, a  Salomon with a triple-capped foot that was featured on Farkas’ Facebook page on April 16, where he mentioned hat he would be giving it out at the Zombie release events. The cigar is part of the ‘non-nuclear’ white-banded Skull & Bones family and is named for a German style of grenade.

The other was dubbed the Super Lance, and is a 7 1/2 x 46 Exclusivo blend that will be out in 2013. However, the samples were rolled in a 48 ring gauge, which Farkas noted would not be the size that ends up at retail. The sample did not have the traditional Exclusivo band on it, but rather the same black and white band used on the White Label Project cigars.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
