News: Sam Leccia Leaving Oliva (Exclusive)

Hearing from a few sources that Sam Leccia will be out at Oliva Cigar Co. Still waiting on official word from Oliva, but it sounds like the NUb and Cain brands will become part of the recently launched Studio Tobac extension from Oliva. Also hearing reports that there will be some limited releases that will be launched under the Studio Tobaco brand. No word on where Sam might be going, but I would guess he’ll try to do his own projects. — el niño diablo.

Update: I should be clear, I am not sure if Sam left or Sam was asked to leave. I’m also unsure what would be the cause of either. Oliva’s recently announced Studio Tobac will be launched shortly and I imagine that there will be some more answers.

Update II: CA has quotes from José Oliva: “It’s true that Sam will not be at the company beyond this year. I can confirm that he won’t be at the company beyond 2010. Because we’re still in a series of talks, we’re not really ready to release the details of this parting” I forgot to mention this earlier, Nub and Cain are both Oliva brands, so Sam won’t be taking those with him. Given that the Studio Tobac Twitter page and the quote above, Sam Leccia is done at Oliva.

I would think with all his new found fame with Oliva that he will not have to wait long to be asked to do something for one of the other name brand companies.
Perhaps he may even be thinking of doing something on his own which is not something that any of us would put past him with his success with the Nub and Cain sticks.
I am pretty disappointed that he is leaving Oliva but am not totally shocked that there is a split between them.
It always seems like when there are two identities working together that some where down the road they split and go on to other endeavors.
I would bet money on it that Sam will soon be in the lime light again working his magic with the Tobacco and we should not worry about getting the opportunity to smoke more of his creations in the future.
I am sure that someone with his talent will be back at it before you can say triple fermentation Cigars. LOL

I'm with Matthew - with both Sam Leccia leaving and Jon Huber leaving their respective posts, I wouldn't be surprised to see these two great personalities team up and create some fantastic new and creative firm!

Good luck to both!

I'm pretty sure what is being negotiated is what events he still has to do. I tried to get to a calendar, but gave up pretty quick into the search. Whatever the case, it seems fairly certain that he will be done by 2011.

Venturing a guess...Sam will be Studio Tobac...a deal giving him even more creative control as he has proven himself with the success of NUB and Cain to Oliva. This sounds like a next step to me, but what do I know?

CigarCraig - hes probaly under contract to make the appearances, I wish him the best of luck, the few times I met him he was a good guy and pretty laid back, hopefully he comes up with some other great cigars for us to enjoy, either way I still plan on smoking the nubs and cain from oliva, and probay what ever new stuff he comes up on his own adventures.

For someone who's on the out he sure is spending a lot of time on the road making appearances. I saw him Tuesday and he had a full week ahead of him traveling and rolling specialty cigars. I like the Nubs a bit (too short!) and the Cains taste excellent, but put a hurtin on me...

My guess, he and Jon Huber do something together...

I'm not a fan of his creations. But look at those two dudes in the background!

Wow...uh...I'm not sure what else to say! What will Sam do without his signature creations? We wouldn't even know who he is without Cain and Nub. Maybe he'll get together with Pete, Jon and Dion to form a new cigar company! :)
