Icons of Cigars™ — Marvin Samel

I heard that Marvin Samel, Co-Owner of Drew Estate cigars was going to be in town at the Up in Smoke on Mckinney Avenue for an event over the weekend, so I thought I would stop by and see if he would be amicable to a quick portrait…

I don’t know what I was expecting, but Marvin is an extremely gregarious and interesting man…He answered every question asked by various people succinctly and in depth, and shot the portrait wearing both sunglasses (“designed by Sting”) and a jacket made from the hide of a cow, then put together using nothing more then D Ring looking clips…

Great guy, and I had a fun time photographing him and talking with him…

Marvin was also kind enough to hand me one of the new blends Liga Privada has been working on, called the “MF-13″…I have an “MF-4″ somewhere that I never got around to smoking, so they have been working hard on this blend…Can’t wait to try it out…

So when do I get my Icons of cigars article? I mean I am a social icon, and I smoke cigars (dog rockets mostly), but cigars none the less. What gives?

Brooks,
As fellow photograph, I can appreciate both shots. I enjoy composition, spot lights, light around his face from the lighter and the Hue in the first one. Thanks for sharing !

Awesome photoraphs!

What were your camera settings for both shots of Marvin?

I got a couple of JD4's from En Fuego's event in Murphy...but didn't get a M-13!

I also got a LP blend wrapped in a Connecticut wrapper.

Both cigars will sit for a couple of weeks before I burn them...they were pulled from a box and were wrapped in what looked like very wet newspaper. Also weather was extremely cold and nasty for the whole week they were in town. Once they settle down, I'll have fun smoking them.

Thanks for the pics!
